Which one is you?

Why piling, why here

The North West is built on difficult ground

Greater Manchester's shrinkable clays move with the seasons. Liverpool sits on made ground over old docks and cleared streets. The Mersey and Ribble valleys hide soft alluvium and peat, and parts of Cheshire settle over historic salt workings.

None of it stops a project. It just means the loads need carrying past the poor ground to something dependable — and choosing the right pile for the right ground is the whole of our trade. Local knowledge is why the first method we price is almost always the right one.

What we do

Piling services

How it works

From "you need piling" to piled — in four steps

  1. Tell us about the job. Call or send your drawings, trial hole results or building control comments. Photos and a postcode are enough to start.
  2. Free site visit. We check access, ground conditions and services, then confirm the right pile type for your plot — not the one rig we happen to own.
  3. Fixed written quote. One number, no day rates, no creeping extras. The price on the quote is the price on the invoice.
  4. Installation & certification. Most domestic jobs are piled in one to three days. Records and certificates go straight to building control.

Told by building control our extension needed piles and feared the worst. They visited within the week, explained everything without jargon, and the final bill matched the quote to the penny.

The rig fitted through our side gate, which two other firms said was impossible. Piled in two days, tidy site, paperwork straight to our building inspector.

As the main contractor we needed 60 CFA piles installed to programme. Mobilised on the agreed date, records issued daily, zero defects at handover.

Frequently asked questions

How much does piling cost?

Most domestic extension packages in the North West fall between £4,000 and £12,000 including ground beams, depending on pile count, depth and access. Commercial work is priced from your engineer's pile schedule. Every job gets a fixed written quote after a free site visit.

How do I know if my project needs piling?

The usual triggers are trial holes showing soft clay, peat or made ground, trees near the build on shrinkable clay, or a building inspector rejecting traditional footings. Send us your drawings and postcode and we will tell you honestly — including when you don't need piles.

How long does piling take?

Most domestic extensions are piled in one to three days, with ground beams formed the same week. Commercial programmes depend on pile count; a CFA rig installs 15 to 25 piles a day in good conditions.

Do you cover my area?

We cover the whole North West: Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria, with local crews based around Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Warrington and Chester.
